UAE Falcons defeat AUB in Trompeter’s final match

UAE Falcons coach Kai Trompeter enjoyed an emotional end to his tenure with the national side after they beat the American University of Beirut 45-14 in Al Ain.

Led by a rampant Andrej Tasic, the Falcons scored on the game’s opening play and dominated proceedings from there on in.

As well as scoring a touchdown himself, Tasic set up Askia Horne- Pierre, Zavier Cobb (twice) and Suliman Gaouda for touchdowns while Andrew Williams ran one in.

Abbas Matar had the pleasure of scoring AUB’s first-ever touchdown before Gideon Nyamuame became the second.

Coach Trompeter has been a major player in UAE American football and was the commissioner of the Emirates American Football League last season.

“It was fantastic, it was quite emotional actually,” Trompeter told Sport360°. “I had to think back to the days when we thought semi-pro football would start and then the initiators pulled the plug.

"To remember those days until now, watching the kids play and then the Falcons, it was just amazing, I felt very proud.

“I’m proud to say that in a short space of time I and Dustin Cherniawski have built the best American football programme in the Middle East. And then to win the game the way we did was just amazing.

“Chris Wentzel, the offensive co-ordinator, and I were talking before the game what the first play should be.

“Throughout the time I was coaching the Falcons, I was always conservative.

“Wentzel always wanted to be adventurous, and he was quite surprised when I said ‘let’s be adventurous and throw the ball long on the first play’. That’s what we did and we scored a touchdown with the first play.

“I trust the guys now they have some experience. Fantastic.”
