UAE child left in car dies

A five-year-old Emirati girl has died after she was left in a car as temperatures soared to 45C, UAE newspaper The National reported on Sunday, citing police.

The child died when she was left while her family visited friends in Umm Al Quwain, the report added.

It’s the second time a child has died in such circumstances in the UAE in the last week.

"The child was with her grandmother and two young relatives," he said. "They left their car and went to a supermarket. From there they went to see a family friend in the neighbourhood,” said Col Khamis Buharoon, the director of police stations for UAQ police.

"It was while they were there that they noticed they were not with RR [the child]."

When they found the girl’s lifeless body they rushed to hospital, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

A two-year-old Emirati boy died in similar circumstances last week when he was accidently left in a car in Sharjah for almost four hours as temperatures reached 42C.

Now, Col Buharoon has again called on parents to ensure their children are not left in cars and are with them at all times.
