The sale of tobacco products has been banned at all outlets including petrol stations and cafeterias in the residential areas of Ajman.
Humaid Al Mualla, director of the Public Health and Environment Department, said that all the outlets have been told about the law and if shops are still found selling tobacco products they will be charged a fine of Dhs 10,000.
If the offence is repeated the shop will be closed down for 30 months, Al Mualla said.
"There would be some exceptions for some outlets and they should be granted an approval from the Commercial Licence Department to sell tobacco products. However, outlets, petrol stations and cafeterias located in the industrial areas of the emirate that are far away from residential areas will be allowed to sell tobacco products," he said.
