The 10 Most Epic Wireless Festival Moments You May Have Forgotten

If you weren’t already aware, this year marks the tenth anniversary of the New Look Wireless Festival. Pretty cool, huh?

The festival itself have already marked turning double figures with a big party (headlined by none other than Drake himself), so we thought we’d make our own toast to the London fest by looking back at the ten most epic New Look Wireless Festival moments EVER.

Ready?

1. The one where Kanye West spend much of his 2014 set ‘ranting’.

Basically, Kanye turned up to play the festival two nights in a row, played the part of Kanye for however-long his set was and left again. As Kanye. The end.

Yep, Kanye filled in for Drake last year, after he pulled out due to illness, and was, according to reports, rather heavily booed. What do you MEAN people don’t like lengthy stage rants when they’re sipping a lukewarm beverage and getting sunburnt to death?

2. The one where Wayne Coyne from The Flaming Lips headed out into the crowd in a giant inflatable bubble.

YOLO.

The rest of their 2006 set was just as crazy as his unique way of keeping us regular people’s grubby mitts off his mini-Coynes, with giant papier-mache hands, dancing Santas and aliens and a smoke machine.

Moral of the story: Expect the unexpected (but brilliant) from the New Look Wireless Festival.

3. The one where Rihanna took things to another level by joining Jay-Z

QUEEN.

Yep, back in 2013 festival-goers got the surprise of their lives when Jay-Z and Jay-T’s already scorching hot Legends of Summer gig was taken to a whole new level by the appearance of RiRi.

Y’know, CASUAL. They quite literally ran the town (well, the park) for almost three hours, and it took us a good three months to get over the excitement of the whole thing.

4. The one where Nicole Scherzinger, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams hung out backstage (2014)

Why we never got some major collaboration involving these three we’ll never know.

5. The one where Little Mix joined Outkast on stage for ‘Hey Ya!’

Last year, the four gorgeous girlies joined the band on stage for a bit of booty and hand-shaking to the total classic, and it was so epic, it made us more jealous than the time our sister got a Christmas present from the cat and we didn’t.

6. The ones where Prince Harry was there

Because who doesn’t like to see royalty also enjoying warm beer and the smell of portaloos, eh?

OH WHO ARE WE KIDDING. Princes don’t use portaloos. Moving swiftly along.

7. The one where Justin Timberlake spent the night in a Premier Inn in 2013

Well, it IS a good night’s sleep, guaranteed.

8. The one where Basement Jaxx’s stage outfits were the closest thing to perfection we’ll ever get

From one nu-rave lollipop ladies to human mirrorballs, through a short stint as The Supremes, Basement Jaxx gave us enough #FancyDressGoals in 2009 to last us a good year. Or two.

Oh, and they also did a quick cover of ‘Sex On Fire’, and if that’s not enough to put them in this list, we don’t know what is.

9. The one where Katy B brought out Jessie Ware AND Ms Dynamite (2013)

In 2013, Katy B gave a performance to remember, filled with Aaliyah covers and incredible appearances from both Jessie Ware and Ms Dy-na-mi-tee-HEE. Talk about bringing out the big guns, eh?

The whole thing caused the crowd to, obviously, go wild, and we’re still waiting for the day these three form some sort of super girlgroup.

JUST IMAGINE.

10. The one where The Cribs’ Ryan Jarman basically sat on our heads when he stage dived.

Okay, so you probably don’t *personally* remember this, but it was very much a momentous occasion for us, if only because it was one of the only things we remember from the festival - which, by the way, was the very first festival we ever went to. Fun fact, folks.

Sorry if we missed anything, but luckily for you, YOU won’t have to miss a thing when the New Look Wireless Festival rolls round this weekend.

Why? Because you can watch New Look Wireless exclusively live-streamed on Yahoo (bookmark the link, tattoo it to your eyeballs, paint it on your walls etc etc).

If that wasn’t enough, you can also stay up to date with all things New Look Wireless - we’ll be reporting from BTS on Twitter, Instagram & Snapchat

Good, right? Happy New Look Wireless-ing!
