Team GB forward Sturridge claims he will continue to improve

Daniel Sturridge insisted there is more to come from himself and the team after the Chelsea forward scored with a delightful chip in Team GB's second group game against the UAE.

Sturridge, who started the evening on the bench for Stuart Pearce's side, was a half-time introduction to the contest and staked a strong claim for a place in the starting line-up after scoring Team GB's third goal on 76 minutes to cap off a good night for the Olympic hopefuls.

Yet despite his goal, the 22 year-old believes he still has more to offer.

"I'm slowly getting there," he told the BBC. "Obviously I'm not back to my peak and I don't feel as good as I want to at the moment, but it's good to be playing , it's good to be on the pitch and I'm getting sharpness day by day.

"It was good to score, obviously the fans have been fantastic, and it's been a difficult few weeks for myself so I'm happy to get on the score sheet but, more importantly, it's great that the team won."

Sturridge also believes that fans have yet to see the best of Team GB, and says that the team is slowly gelling.

He added: "We've only played three games together so it's been difficult for us but, as we've been showing in training, we've been getting a lot better,

"We're starting to know how each other plays now, and it showed tonight with how we played."
