Sport360°'s recommended UAE venues to watch the Ryder Cup

The anticipation is building at Gleneagles and beyond as the Ryder Cup, golf’s most famous team competition, returns this weekend.

The biennial showdown between the finest golfers from America and those from Europe is compulsive viewing as the action and drama unfolds across three days of competition.

The UAE’s golfing fraternity will no doubt be glued to their screens as they watch Europe attempt to retain the trophy on home soil, two years on from their dramatic victory at Medinah.

While the action is thousands of miles away in Scotland, you can watch the action unfold in various bars and golf clubs in the UAE.

Both the Emirates Golf Club and Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club in Dubai have fantastic facilities, and if you want to witness the action with other keen golfers and golf fans then either venue would be the perfect spot.

The Spike Bar at the Emirates Club and Lake View at Dubai Creek are both showing uninterrupted coverage across the three days.

The two venues come under the Dubai Golf umbrella and, head of sales and marketing, Adele Cowgill, said: “We are the experts in golf and you will be watching the sport at one of the most established courses in the region.

“There will be a lot of people who are passionate about sport throughout the three days and that will come through the atmosphere. Emirates Golf Club has one giant screen as well and at least eight smaller screens, while Lake View has at least four televisions; so they are both great places to watch the competition.”

Barasti, who are no strangers to broadcasting live sport, will be beaming coverage on their LED screens. Open to 21 and over, you can relax and enjoy the beverages and meals as the action unfolds, while also catching up on the other live sport being shown.

Derryn French, director of marketing at Mina Seyahi Complex, which owns Barasti, said: “It’s a great place to watch the sport and soak in the atmosphere.

“There will be a lot of people inside the venue and it will be unique thing of being on a beach and watching the Ryder Cup.”

Time Café near Maktoum Bridge and Bidi Bondi (for 21-plus after 20:00) at Palm Jumeriah are also great venues to watch the tournament.

If you’re in Abu Dhabi, then Yas Links Golf Club has an exciting offer for members and guests.

Wear your team’s colour, red (USA) or blue (Europe) and you will receive a two-for-one beverage voucher at Spinney’s. If you fancy a bite to eat, then there are some great dishes to choose from.

Milton Crasto, food and beverage manager at Yas Links, said: “Not only do we provide views of the Arabian gulf and natural mangroves we’ll also be featuring the golf all weekend on our large plasma screens so you can sit back, relax and cheer for your respective team.”

And Abu Dhabi City Golf Club (ADCGC) will screen the action on four big plasmas for its members and guests. Open from 11:00, there is a special meal offer of pizza, pasta and four beverages for only Dh99 to pull in the spectators.

Some of the world’s best golfers will be in action with Europe boasting an array of talent spearheaded by world number one Rory McIlroy. For the USA, they will be hoping to count on the experience of Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk, who are both set make their ninth appearances.

If they are to win away from home then they will want to make a positive start to Friday morning’s fourballs. Foursomes follow in the afternoon, a formula repeated on Saturday with the guaranteed exc-itement for the singles on Sunday.
