Speeder arrested after high-speed chase with Dubai Police

Police patrols gave pursuit and said the man was driving dangerously in the direction of Sharjah.

A driver has been arrested following a police chase in Dubai.

Traffic cops said that the Emirati motorist was spotted driving recklessly on Al Dhalam Road about 1.40am earlier this month.

The head of Dubai Traffic Police, General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, said: “He was driving at high speed and in a dangerous way that endangered the lives of other road users.

“He was making tyre noises on roundabouts and was harassing other motorists, challenging them to race.”

A police patrol asked him to pull over but he refused, Al Zafeen said. The man drove off at high speed towards Al Khawaneej and then onto Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Road.

Police patrols gave pursuit and said the man was driving dangerously in the direction of Sharjah.

“He started driving on the hard shoulder after turning off the lights, thinking we wouldn’t be able to get the plate number,”Al Zafeen said.

The driver eventually turned off the road and jumped a red signal. “He was careless and did not care about other lives so we decided to take the number and leave him,” said Al Zafeen.

He added the man was later arrested when he returned home. He is now facing charges including reckless driving and fleeing from police.
