Qualifying still open for the Xerox Challenge at Yas Links

The fourth qualifying round of this year’s Xerox Corporate Golf Challenge – the oldest corporate golf tournament in the Middle East – takes place at the beautiful Yas Links Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

Registration for the tournament is still open online for two-member teams. The 86 finalists from the qualifying rounds will get a chance to play in a two-day, 36-hole grand final at Tower Links Golf Club and Al Hamra Golf Club in December.

Qualifying winners also receive an overnight stay in the Waldorf Astoria in Ras Al Khaimah.

Other prizes for the fourth qualifier, which will follow pairs better ball stroke play format, include a trophy for the top three teams, a Callaway golf bag for both members of the first place team, a Xerox printer for the top ‘Fully Corporate Team’, along with additional oncourse hole prizes.

The fees for player registration are Dh295 for members of Yas Links Abu Dhabi, Dh350 for Emirates Golf Federation members and Dh395 for general visitors.

Yas Links Abu Dhabi, designed by Kyle Phillips, was awarded ‘Best Golf Course in the Middle East’ by Golf Digest for its appealing 18-hole course and facilities, which has stunning views of the Arabian Gulf.

“We look forward to providing our golfers with an unmatched experience at the award-winning Yas Links,” said Andrew Horne, general manager of Xerox Emirates.

“XCGC has been growing by leaps and bounds, and we are happy to be able to include some of the most iconic courses across the Middle East in this year’s series.”

The three qualifiers held so far this year were at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and Emirates Golf Club in the UAE, as well as at Doha Golf Club in Qatar. The fifth qualifying round will be held at Almouj Golf in Oman on May 31.

The tournament is hoping to raise $60,000 – the cost of one mobile eye camp for bringing 4,000 treatments and up to 500 surgeries – in support of the Noor Dubai Foundation.

The XCGC started in the UAE in 1997, supported by the UAE Golf Association, to give corporates an opportunity to compete on the course.

The event has since grown from its three-round qualifying format and has been played at various countries such as Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Bahrain.

XCGC has been awarded ‘Best Corporate Golf Challenge in the Middle East’ three times, with the latest coming in 2013 at Sport360°’s MEGAs.

The grand prize winners have received entries in various pro-am tournaments, as well as a trip to the Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2012.
