Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales and first in line to the British throne, made a brief visit to the capital on Friday, where he was welcomed by HH General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is also Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

National news agency WAM said the pair discussed the close relationship between the UAE and the United Kingdom.

Sheikh Mohamed also reassured Prince Charles as to the health of the President, HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The British prince conveyed best wishes of Elizabeth II Queen of England of good health for him, WAM said. Sheikh Khalifa is recovering from a stroke he suffered last month.

Sheikh Mohamed and Prince Charles also discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Prince Charles’ visit comes after less than a year after the state visit of Sheikh Khalifa to the UK in April and May 2013, while Britain’s Queen Elizabeth and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, visited the UAE at the invitation of Sheikh Khalifa at the end of 2010.
