The movement was founded in 2008 by Hanna Hutsol provoked by the sad stories of Ukrainian women fooled by false marriage promises from abroad. It united a small number of young female students from nearby universities who were disappointed with the social, political and economic situation of women in Ukraine. "I set up FEMEN because I realised that there was a lack of women activists in our society; Ukraine is male-oriented and women take a passive role." (Wikipedia) less
