Pakistani woman says she was trafficked, gang raped after juice was spiked in Dubai

A woman has told a how she blew the whistle on suspected human traffickers after she was raped by five men and dumped semi-naked in a Dubai street.

A 37-year-old Pakistani man went on trial at Dubai Court of First Instance on Wednesday charged with human trafficking and running a brothel. A second man, who is Indian, was also on trial, charged with raped.

The 24-year-old Pakistani woman told the court that she was working as a maid for the defendant in Pakistan when he said he could get her a better paid job as a maid in Dubai.

She claims she was taken to a Dubai flat which housed six Pakistani women who the defendant said worked as dancers in a nightclub and was asked to work as a dancer. She added: “I told him that I didn’t know how to dance and I have birthmarks on my body. He asked me to work as a cleaner in the flat.”

It is alleged the Indian defendant booked the girls for a party in Karama and the alleged victim said: “He gave me orange juice and the next thing I knew I was in his flat in International City.”

She claims five other Indian men came in, raped her then kicked her out, adding: “I managed to grab my trousers and ran outside. A taxi took me to Rashidiya Police Station.”

She identified the two defendants in a line-up. The two defendants pleaded not guilty and the trial was adjourned.
