West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie led the pack of Nigerian strikers who scored for their clubs this weekend with a hat-trick.
The Super Eagle had a great performance for his team against their Black Country rivals Wolves, winning 5-1.
It was Odemwingie’s first hat-trick in the English Premier League as he brought the limelight back on himself at the Moulineux Stadium.
Yakubu Aiyegbeni returned with a goal for Blackburn Rovers – his 13th in the current campaign. His strike helped defeat Queens Park Rangers 3-2 on Saturday. This victory gives Rovers a lifeline in their fight against relegation. Left-back Taye Taiwo was on the pitch for QPR throughout the 90 minutes.
Former Under-20 striker Uche Nwofor scored for Venlo in the Eredivisie as his side defeated Groningen 2-0, though they are still 16th in the 18-club league table. That was Nwofor’s third goal of the season.
In Turkey, Super Eagles striker Ekigho Ekiosun scored as Samsunspor defeated Eskisehirspor 3-1. This was also Ehiosun's third goal of the season from 22 appearances. Another Nigerian youth international, Simon Zenke, was on the Samsunspor bench as an unused substitute.
