Dubai residents will soon be able to get a forewarning of oncoming sandstorms through a new application being developed by the Dubai Municipality, local newspaper XPRESS reported on Thursday.

Residents will be notified via SMS48 hours in advance of a predicted sandstorm, the newspaper reported, enabling people to be prepared.

The new application will gather weather forecasts from the Automatic Weather Stations as well as the World Meteorological Organisation.

Planned to be launched by the end of this year, the application will help residents with asthma and related allergies to be prepared for upcoming sandstorms, the newspaper added.
