A mum and her son have showed off a shocking body transformation after vowing to become healthier and hit the gym.

Angela McManus has slimmed down from a size 16 to a healthy size 12 after swapping ready meals for fresh meat and vegetables.

The 48-year-old, from Newcastle upon Tyne, also roped her son Bradley, 20, into her healthier lifestyle and the pair now flaunts enviable and taut figures. Bradley is even sporting an impressive six-pack and toned arms.

Angela made the decision to dramatically alter her lifestyle after a family snowboarding holiday left her constantly out of breath. She also admits her understanding of nutrition “hadn’t been great” before.

“My sons lived off chicken nuggets and chips and a standard meal for me was something like a frozen chicken kiev,” she tells Mail Online. “Looking back, I can’t believe how long this lasted. I just did what I thought would be cheapest and easiest without considering other options.”

Angela kick-started her weight loss programme by enlisting the help of a personal trainer. “They helped me to get on track with exercise, which was a huge struggle at first,” she admits.

But despite the intense workouts, she wasn’t losing any weight as she was eating the same processed meals.

“Changing my diet played a huge role in my transformation. In the past, my understanding of nutrition and the options out there hadn’t been great, but once I started to search for the facts my life changed completely.

“I swapped our breaded chicken for healthier alternatives and replaced my usual snack of crisps with celery sticks and almond butter. Gone are the days of skipping breakfast, now I stock up on spinach and poached eggs to give myself the healthiest start to the day.”

Angela’s achievements prompted her son, Bradley, to join in. “Bradley had been chubby since school, avoiding exercise except for football and eating starchy school dinners,” says Angela. “Once I saw the changes in my life, I encouraged him to give a personal trainer a go and eat healthily.

“He’s seen a huge change in his life and the two of us support each other, not allowing ourselves to make the excuses that stopped us from good health previously.”
