Former finance minister Pranab Mukherjee won India's presidential election on Sunday, collecting more than half of the electoral college votes, the Press Trust of India news agency said.
The presidency is a mainly ceremonial role chosen by votes from the two houses of parliament in New Delhi and members of the state assemblies.
