Malaysia arrests Saudi blogger over Prophet Mohammad tweets

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 (Reuters) - Malaysian police have

arrested a Saudi Arabian columnist who fled his country after

making comments on Twitter deemed insulting to the Prophet

Mohammad, prompting a surge of online outrage and calls for his

    execution.

"It is confirmed that Malaysian police have detained the

Saudi writer. This arrest was part of an Interpol operation

which the Malaysian police were a part of," a police spokesman

    told Reuters on Friday.

He gave no further details and would not comment on whether

the writer, Hamza Kashgari, would be extradited to Saudi Arabia,

where some Islamic clerics have called for him to be put to

    death for his comments.

Malaysia is a majority Muslim country with a close affinity

with many Middle Eastern nations through their shared religion.

The Southeast Asian nation is also a U.S. ally and a leading

global voice for moderate Islam, meaning that any decision to

extradite Kashgari certain to be controversial.

Blasphemy is a crime punishable by execution under oil-rich

Saudi Arabia's strict interpretation of Islamic sharia law. It

is not a capital crime in Malaysia.

The 23-year-old Kashgari reportedly posted the comments on

his Twitter feed to mark the Prophet Mohammad's birthday on

Saturday, drawing thousands of outraged comments on Twitter and

    other social networking sites.

Reuters could not verify Kashgari's comments because he

later deleted them, but media reported that one them reflected

his contradictory views of the Prophet.

Kashgari later said in an interview that he was being made a

"scapegoat for a larger conflict" over his comments.

"I view my actions as part of a process toward freedom,"

Kashgari was quoted as saying in the interview with the Daily

    Beast website.

"I was demanding my right to practice the most basic human

rights - freedom of expression and thought - so nothing was done

    in vain."

I agree with the writers who said that the posted comments of this guy (Hamza Kashgari) should be published for all to see.

During the time of our lord jesus, in one country here in the middle east (not to mention) the people condemned and demanded the stoning to death of a lady(not to mention) because of prostitution. Jesus said "LET THOSE WHO HAVE NOT SINNED CAST THE FIRST STONE" but no one did. WHY? because everybody is a sinner. Its only ALMIGHTY GOD has the right to judge for we all owe our life to him through our parents. Freedom of expresion shall prevail anyway he(hamza) will be judged by our almighty accordingly.(after death)

How many of you have read his comments? don't judge till you are sure of the offence.lets ask for what he wrote as a proof and if it really was an insult well then he will be punished by Allah here and in the after life.

my greetings to our muslim brothers..we do respect your religious beliefs and traditions..but in this regard why don't u give him the benifits of the doubt and respect his own views..
      • alhasan 3 months ago
Because theres no such a thing as freedom of speech in muslim countries
      • Qazi 3 months ago
the question is not of benefit of doubt; why the hell he did this. Freedom of speech is something else & being a muslim he is aware of the fact that this is part of our belief to respect Prophet (PBUH). he did this just to highlight himself & later on he'll be offered asylum in europe or US.

Blasphomers should be punished properly, otherwise it will spread like an infectious disease.

The ONLY one that should execute or kill this man is someone who has never SINNED no BLASPHEMED all his/her life! Shame on you who wanted to end the life of this person. Look at yourself in the mirror first. You might be more horrible than that person who "blasphemed" your prophet.

No Muslim is a Muslim, if he denies any of the prophets’ prophet hoods. These include Adam through Abraham through Jesus to the last and final one Mohammed (Peace and Bless be upon all of them). In facts they are the most superior creation and representative of almighty creator.
Before Mohammed (PBUH), Arabs were involved with fighting each other for the very simple issues. One tribe fought with other over 40 years and killed thousands only for a bucket of camel milk issue. They were killing innocent baby girls; might is right, robbery, killing, gambling, and rapping were the common daily act. Who have removed the darkness from the society? So the people who try to attack on those representative of God, they are the unluckiest ones. “In fact every disbeliever will be thrown into the burning hell fire. What an inferior place that is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

in Islam, same punishment will be given to insults against any prophet not only Mohammad. because we believe in all prophets.
And the world “Kafer” means non believer. So a Muslim is Kafer in Buddhism and Buddha followers are Kafer in Islam .
But all are the same in the eyes of the Islamic law and have the same civil rights.

ITS A FREE COUNTRY DOESN'T MEAN WE CAN INSULT OTHER'S RELIGIONS AND PROPHETS. ISLAM IS THE BEST WAY OF LIFE WITH ITS PROOF IN SCIENCE AND SIGNS AND BEFORE ONE CRITISIZES, HE/ SHE SHOULD READ. THIS MAN WHO HAS INSULTED OUR PROPHET (SALALLAHU ALEIHU WASALLAM) MUST FACE JUSTICE AND BE PUNISHED THROUGH SHERIAAH. HIM INSULTING OUR PROPHET SHOWS CLEARLY THAT HE IS NOT A MUSLIM. WHETHER HE ADMITS THAT HE IS A SHIAA OR SUNNI. HE HAS NOT EVEN REACHED THE ROAD OF ISLAM BECAUSE THE MAIN GATE OF ISLAM IS LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAH MUHAMMADAN RASULULLAH. SO HE IS NOT A BELIEVER. THE MAIN POINT BEING WHAT SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT HIM, INSHA'ALLAH I WISH TO SEE HIM PAY FOR BEING INHUMAN. AND INSHA'ALLAH HE WILL ALSO BE PUNISHED IN AAKHIRAH.

One thinks his acts are always right and these kind of people show that they are more smart in terms of religious and they want other people to follow. These people continuously raise questions in search of god and end up in no answer, one who forgets to search in them and one who fails realize god in them, like Prophet Mohammed. At least if he cannot realize God, he can follow Prophet Mohammed, not condemn or humiliate.

Humans have capability of thinking, that is the only cause for this kind of problems.

Each one has different type of freedom. Let him get punished as per sharis here itself rather than afterwards which may be severe.
    • DoctorMu  •  3 months ago
As a general principle, disrespect for any religion or prophet is ethically unacceptable. All religions and prophets should be respected by all people.
