Kim Kardashian’s 50-step beauty routine will cost you $1,200 -- that is, if you can get the products

A few weeks ago, Kim Kardashian hosted a step-by-step contouring tutorial with makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California. It cost $300.

Crowded into an auditorium, guests watched as Dedivanovic went through a 50-step process to make regular ol’ Kim transform into the social media star we have come to expect. It took four hours.

Sitting in the audience was Racked writer Arabelle Sicardi who reported on the experience.

“In the dim light of the theater, I was greeted by rows and rows of girls with Kim haircuts, hair glossed to a glow that bounced off the plates of their Michael Kors bags,” she writes. “It seemed like everyone was trying to keep up with this Kardashian, and they weren’t afraid of forking over $300 just to get in the door.”

Sicardi’s experience brought up some interesting insights. First, many of the people who travelled from far to attend the event – including places like Ethiopia, Sweden, Dubai and Cairo – were actually super fans of Dedivanovic not Kim. Sicardi was also surprised to discover how likable Kim was. “She talked about Nori with the devotion of a mother,” she writes. “She was soft-spoken and she trailed off a lot.”

But the highlight of the event was clearly the makeup.

As a hush fell over the room, Dedivanovic worked through his complex 50-step routine to transform Kim from this:

More than 50 products were used during the process, including a highlighter by Anastasia Beverly Hills, which isn’t yet on the market and five custom Tom Ford lip colours that simply aren’t available at all. A little bit frustrating after you’ve paid $300 to get closer to looking like Kim. The full 50-step process can be found on Racked.

But the real questions is, how much does this cost? First assuming you have a makeup bag (or room) big enough to house all of this product, Cosmopolitan estimated that the look would cost around $1,200. And that’s not including the products that don’t even exist for us mere mortals. Just when we thought we were getting a little closer to Kim. Sigh.
