Beachgoers in Dubai have suffered a spate of jellyfish stings in the last few days due to unpredictable water temperatures.
Officials said: “The water is cold, so the jellyfish head nearer the shore where it is warmer.”
In the last two days alone, several tourists have reported jellyfish stings at various Dubai beaches.
One coastguard said: “The temperature on the shore was particularly warm during the last two days, which resulted in jellyfish coming onto the shore.
“Several people were bitten. All we did was to neutralise it with vinegar.”
Beachgoers have been warned to stay out of the water. Red flags are, in any case, still raised at all beaches as a warning to swimmers, after the weekend’s sandstorm was followed by temperatures dropping 10C and waves reaching 3.6 metres.
