Jeddah to have techno varsity

A private business and technology university will be established in Jeddah after Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah gave his approval for the project, Higher Education Minister Khaled Al-Anqari said yesterday.

He said: “The new private university will be established, transforming existing colleges.”

He added the new university project has fulfilled all necessary conditions. “The Higher Education Council has approved the rules and regulations governing Saudi funded research chairs in foreign universities.”

The ministry drafted the law considering the growing request to finance such research chairs abroad.

Al-Anqari said King Abdullah has approved the establishment of nine new colleges under various Saudi universities.

There will be a university college in Adham near Al-Laith (under Umm Al-Qura), a college of law in Jeddah (King Abdulaziz University), a college of medicine and college of engineering in Bisha (King Khaled), a college of science and computer engineering in Hafr Al-Baten (King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals), a university college in Sabya (Jazan), a college of arts and science in Oyoun Al-Jawa (Qassim), a college of petroleum and geology at King Fahd University, and a college of dentistry at Princess Nourah University.

The Higher Education Council also approved the transformation of the College of Naturopathy at Princess Nourah into the College of Health and Rehabilitation Science.

King Abdullah also approved the establishment of a pioneering business creativity institute at Umm Al-Qura, a research and training institute at Al-Jouf, a deanship for university studies at Northern Border University, a deanship for communications and information technology in Dammam University, two research centers at Qassim University and a human and administrative studies center at Majmaa University.

The Higher Education Council approved the agreement between King Saud University and Charles University in Prague, Tabuk University agency for branches and appointed Owaid Al-Atwi its undersecretary, Abdullah Maharji undersecretary at KAU, Saud Taher undersecretary at Taibah for business and knowledge creativity and Talal Al-Sharief undersecretary at Shaqra.
