Manipal, Dec 28 (IANS) Defending champions Jain University beat Bangalore University by 142 runs to enter the semi-finals of the south zone inter-university cricket tournament at the Manipal Institute of Technology ground here Friday.
Jain University next face Andhra University, Vishakapatnam, in the semi-final slated for Saturday. In the other semi-final, last year's runners-up University of Madras take on JNTU, Hyderabad.
Opting to bat first, Jain University made 262 all out in 50 overs. Samarth Ravi Kumar top scored with 65, Shashindra made 56 and Gaurav Goel 52. Shashindra also picked up two for 18 and was adjudged as Man of the Match.
Bangalore were all out for 120 in 43.5 overs.
Jain University made things difficult for the Bangalore batsmen right from the start. A fine spell by Bavesh Gunecha (3/31) and Daniel Sequeira (2/20) reduced Bangalore to 48 for seven.
Yousuf Aziz (37), shared two partnerships, 34 with Chetan (12) for the eighth wicket and 28 with Anil (13) for the ninth wicket that helped Bangalore cross the 100-run mark.
At MIT ground: Jain University beat Bangalore University by 142 runs.
