An Emirates
airliner was forced to make an emergency landing in Warsaw when a woman on the
flight from Dubai to Manchester suffered a heart attack, UAE daily Gulf News
reported.
The woman reportedly became ill five hours into the flight that departed from
Dubai at 3am on Friday, forcing the flight to change route and make the
emergency landing for medical purposes.
An Emirates spokesperson was quoted as saying: “Emirates flight EK021 from
Dubai to Manchester made an unscheduled diversion to Warsaw on Friday due to an
on-board medical emergency. On arrival in Warsaw, the passenger was regrettably
pronounced dead.”
A spokesperson for Warsaw’s Chopin Airport told the paper that the airport’s
“medical crew tried to resuscitate the passenger for 30 minutes but she could
no longer be revived”.
Emirates said the flight was grounded for one hour and 50 minutes, after which the body had been repatriated to Manchester. The spokesperson added: “Emirates sympathises with the family members involved.”
