Egyptian Paralympics official fined for sexual harassment

An official who accompanied Egypt’s team at the London Paralympics has been found guilty of sexual harassment by a UK court, British website Mail Online reported.

Ibrahim Ahmed Khalil, 56, was arrested two days ago after a woman claimed that on Sunday he had fondled her 21-year-old daughter’s breasts.

The Egyptian embassy’s attempts to claim diplomatic immunity for Khalil failed, the report added.

Khalil tried to defend himself by telling police that he poked the girl’s breast to tell her where she should pin a flag badge, adding that he ”didn’t really understand what he had done wrong but wanted to apologise because the girl was upset with him.”

The court magistrate accepted his apology “on the basis that it is a one-off error of judgement” but ordered him to pay a fine of 375 Sterling Pounds (AED 2,216).
