    Dutch government approves burqa ban

The Hague, Jan 28 (IANS) The Dutch government Friday approved a ban on face-covering clothing, such as a burqa, a niqab, a forage cap, or a full face helmet, reported Xinhua.

People going on the streets with one of these now risk being fined for up to 380 euros ($499).

"It is very important that people in an open society meet each other in an open way," Minister of Interior Affairs Liesbeth Spies said after the cabinet meeting.

The burqa ban was already part of the government coalition agreement. In September 2011, the proposal was sent for advice to the council of state, which issued a negative opinion.

The council considered the proposal contrary to the prohibition of freedom of religion and contrary to the standards of non-discrimination. The government's main advisory body also wondered whether a burqa ban was too heavy a measure.

However, the cabinet neglected the advice and claimed the European Convention on Human Rights offers the opportunity to limit religious freedom when it is in the interest of the public order.

"We think we have to make a legitimate exception to the freedom of religion," Spies said.

In April last year, France introduced a burqa ban and became the first European country to ban people from concealing their faces in public in many manner.

Many stupid comments are in favor of ban - THIS IS SIMPLE TO UNDERSTAND THAT THEY ARE AGAINST "ISLAM" - and remember the veiled women are most respected than an uncovered one.

Dear Paulo & Every non Muslim Brothers & Sisters here, If you believe in God, it does not matter you are Christian or Jews, you should agree with the clothing of Christians religious priest. Why do they wrap them like this? Is this sadism? No. at all. But unfortunately it is the men (specially western people & some so called generous Muslim these days) who are responsible to make Naked the women by removing their every clothing millimeter by millimeter, while they added more & more for them (men). Definitely this is directly contradictory with God's ordained, and a satanic (evil) follow up.

Moreover, if you go through the Sayings of Prophet Abraham, David, Isaac, Ismail, Joseph, Jacob, John, Moses, Jesus & the last and final one Mohammed (peace & blessing be upon them), you will realize what was said by them regarding dress code for men & women.

In fact it is the Mankind who cover themselves, you will not see any animal are wearing or covering such ways. Because Human are the best creation of Almighty God by giving them better Knowledge than any other creations.

So anyones who are attacking on these types of wearing, they are in mistake, they are even against of Torah, Gospel let alone Saudia or Quran and Hadith.
So if Saudia advices its visitors to make modesty in the wearing, it is not against even Torah or Gospel. I am sure Saudia never advices its non Muslim visitors to wear Burqa.

@monju are you sure about everything you're saying right now? what those non-muslim people who lives in Saudi Arabia? They ar FORCED to do everything on their religion against their will! and if you don't follow them, you'll be facing a big trouble which sometimes would lead you in prison, harassment or deportation. While you muslims, when in non-muslim country, you always insist to practice and respect your religion. While the others especially Christians, they can't do the same thing in msulim countries! Who are you to always be followed? So tell me muslims, where's HUMANITY, FREEDOM and PEACE here? You suckers...

I've been living in the Middle East for over 7 years. While travelling and living in the Arab / Muslim countries, foreigners are often given guidleines and rules for how we should behave and dress. Therefore, why do people who emigrate from these countries to the West find it so unreasonable to follow the guidelines and rules of the West.
If I want to wear a thong and bikini to show off my big, fat butt, I should stay in the US to do that rather than go to Oman now, shouldn't I? So if a woman chooses to veil her face, which interestingly enough is even banned in Omani universities, she shouldn't be in a country where the burqa or niqab is the norm. Logic, people. Think about it.

if the dutch gov have decided then it is fair because it is their country after all. in the middle east they expect all visitors / tourist to respect their religious rules so all those who wear the burqas should be able to respect the decision made by the dutch gov. its nothing to do with racism, i have seen the worse in the middle east. every country has the right to decide and make their own rules, if one is disagreeing then it is best to go back where you belong. The French has done it so whats all the big surprise with the dutch?!
