Dubai campers to face BBQ fine

Dubai: Campers who leave remnants of their barbecues or shisha in the desert will be fined Dhs500, Dubai municipality warned on Wednesday.

Inspectors from the municipality will be paying surprise visits to all the popular camping sites in the region, particularly at the weekends, to ensure cleanliness in the camping areas.

"We will have our inspectors going to different camping areas once a day. We want them to dispose of the coals properly. We are also promoting the use of modern barbecuing techniques that don't require coal," Suhail Al Awadi, the municipality’s head of the Bur Dubai cleaning unit said.

A nationwide desert clean-up campaign started last month after Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs, tweeted about beauty spots being ruined by camping debris.
