Traffic offenders with unpaid fines are barred from travelling outside the UAE until they are paid, UAE website Emirates 24/7 reported.
The announcement came as Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of Dubai’s traffic cops released of a list showing total traffic fines run up by 17 motorists in the emirate totaled a whopping 2.9 million AED ($8 million), the report added.
Referring to a Bangladeshi woman, who topped the offenders’ list with an accumulated fines of Dh201,140, he added: “She will not face any case, but her vehicle will be in detention and her file will be frozen, and she will not be able to leave the country.”
Al Mazroui said that motorists can pay their fines in instalments.
