Cross-dressing man arrested in UAE park on ladies day

UAE cops have arrested a man after he was spotted in an abaya, apparently disguised so he could walk around a park on ladies’ day, daily newspaper 7Days reported on Monday.

An Arabic woman called police after she spotted the man in a black abaya and wearing a headscarf to cover his face, at a park in the conservative northern Emirate of Sharjah.

Cross-dressing is illegal in the UAE and breaches the country’s decency laws.

Police arrested the Indian man, who had a moustache, for cross-dressing. But during their investigation later discovered he was staying in the country illegally as he did not have a visa, the report added.
