US Auto Sales Slow In September

September US auto sales came in just below expectations.

According to Autodata, auto sales in September came in at an annual rate of 16.43 million units, below expectations for 16.5 million.

Among the individual carmakers, Chrysler reported an increase of 19%, topping expectations for a 16% rise.

General Motors reported a 19.4% increase in the pace of sales, which was better than expected, while Ford sales fell more than expected.

Among international manufacturers, Nissan reported sales that were better than expected. Nissan's US sales in September rose 18.5%, better than the 17% that was expected by analysts, according to Bloomberg.

Toyota and Honda, however, reported sales that rose less than expected.

• Ford: -2.7% (-2.4% expected)

• General Motors: +19.4% (+18% expected)

• Honda: +12% (+15% expected)

• Toyota: +1.7% (+7.5% expected)
