Charity toy drive is a new world record

Kind-hearted UAE residents have helped to set a world record by donating more than 20 tonnes of toys for under-privileged children.

Drinks firm TANG organised the Guinness World Record attempt for ‘the largest donation of toys in 24 hours’ and 30,000 toys including dolls, board games, footballs, remote-control cars, skateboards and bicycles, were collected as part of the ‘Do Good’ campaign across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman. The items weighed a total of 20.713 tonnes.

The assortment will be distributed to children in need across the three countries.

Talal Omar, country manager for MENA at Guinness World Records Ltd, verified the record after adjudicating the attempt with colleagues in Saudi Arabia and Oman.

He told 7DAYS: “TANG needed to collect a minimum of nine tonnes of toys in order to be able to set this new world record. It is a stupendous feat achieved, by both TANG and the children, to collect more than double that requirement.”

Parents and kids across the region donated toys at drop-off points earlier this year and more than five tonnes of games and toys were given by UAE residents. The mammoth haul also included toys donated via credits earned from playing online games.
