Byrne vs Lima in Fighting Chance heavyweight showdown

Fighting Chance - the charity boxing night involving some of the biggest names in rugby - is getting ever closer and the match-up for the eagerly-anticipated heavyweight bout has been announced.

In a night organised to raise money for Back on Your Bike – a charity set up for Dubai resident Rich Holland who sustained multiple life-threatening injuries in 2011 when hit by a car while training for an upcoming Iron Man event – Fighting Chance pits the northern and southern hemispheres against each other.

And the heavyweight showdown is expected to be a feisty affair with former Ireland forward Shane Byrne taking on Samoan Brian Lima.

Nicknamed ‘Mullet’ for his distinctive hairstyle, Byrne appeared in over 40 Tests for Ireland as well as being part of the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand in 2005.

And the former Leinster and Saracens hooker will have to be at his fighting best in Dubai on May 24 when he takes on the infamously tough-tackling Lima.

In his playing days, the former Samoa center earned the nickname 'The Chiropractor' for his bine-crushing hits (like this monster below) and if he delivers a similar ethic in the ring, Bryne could be in for a tough night!

As well as our two well-known heavyweights, there will be a host of other high-profile rugby stars fighting on the night.

Wales heroes Gareth Thomas and Shane Williams, former England rugby league star Sean Long and Welshwoman Non Evans will also be representing the north.

Meanwhile, the south will also be represented by South African trio Chester Williams, Conrad Jantjes, and Bolla Conradie as well as New Zealand pair Carlos Spencer and Huriana Manuel.

The Fighting Chance evening is a black tie event and organiser John Mamea-Wilson is hoping to raise AED500,000 for Back on Your Bike. To read more about Richard and the BackOnYourBike fund visit: www.backonyourbike.com
