British Prime Minister David Cameron suffered his first significant parliamentary defeat on Wednesday after rebels in his Conservative party ganged up with the Labour opposition to back a cut in the EU budget.
A House of Commons motion urging Cameron to hold out for a cut in real terms when the European Union's leaders meet in Brussels next month was passed by 307 votes to 294. While not binding, it is a blow to the coalition government.
