RIYADH: The Dirab Ladies Group mustered eight teams that turned out for the 9 a.m. shotgun start on a windless sunny day during the 2012 Royal Air Maroc Ladies Golf Tournament last Tuesday at the Dirab Golf & Country Club.
When the dust settled the team of Flore Bouzanne, Mi Jung and Roselyne DeParcevaux was proclaimed winner in the Texas Scramble format competition. The winning trio scored a net total of 61 from a gross score of 89 (42-47) and handicap of 28.
Four strokes back in second place was the team of May Biswas and Fauzia Shamim, who combined for a net 65 from a gross 96 and 31 handicap.
Monika Schiffer and Mayumi Nagano rounded out the top three winners in the alternate shot event, compiling 69 from a gross score of 101 and 32 handicap.
The awards for closest to the win and straight drive went to Caroline Wright and Biswas, respectively.
The grand raffle prize of two return air tickets to Casablanca courtesy of Royal Air Maroc went to Martine Himmesoete and Noor Sihag. Shamim, Jung and Nagaya each won an Air Maroc logoed cap.
During the awards ceremony the group’s captain, Bouzanne, and vice captain Denise Holding thanked the sponsor Royal Air Maroc and Ezzairi Noureddine, area manager Riyadh and Eastern Province, and the club for their support to the lady golfers.
DGCC Golf Manager Bouchaib El Jadiani and Dirab Golf Committee Chairman Nasser Uddin Siddiqui attended the event during which an appreciation ceremony was held for Bouzanne for her contribution in promoting ladies golf. Bouzanne will still be around as Ladies Group captain but not on a full time basis like she used to do.
This tournament was the first major event of the 2011-2012 season that began October last year.
