Severe weather warning issued in UAE

Motorists drive in the fog in the UAE

A severe weather warning has been issued across the UAE for the weekend, amid forecasts of rain, fog and dust storms, as well as rough seas, daily newspaper The National reported on Thursday.

The conditions are expected to lead to reduced visibility on roads. Recent foggy conditions led to hundreds of road smashes in which three people were killed and many more were injured.

This latest warning comes just days after reports from UAE weather forecasters that winter was officially over and that temperatures were starting to rise.

This weekend is likely to see rain most likely in the Northern Emirates and Al Gharbia. There are also warnings of fog and dust storms, the report added.

Meanwhile conditions out at sea are expected to be rough, and anyone planning to use coastal waters are advised to first check forecasts before setting sail.

Temperatures are expected to drop to as low as 7C in some parts of the country, but with highs of 27C.
