A photographer has suspended himself from the top of the world's tallest building in Dubai to shoot the most dramatic footage.

American, Joe McNally scaled half a mile to the tip of the Burj Khalifa, and suspended himself on a harness from the tower’s mast and filmed the breathtaking views. He also shot some of the workers at the building, busy performing their maintenance chores.

I told folks I would send out a picture from the top, which seemed like a fun thing to do in these days of connectivity and instant visual delivery. Of course, I had to be very careful handling the iPhone at that height!”, said McNally.

A photographer with 26 years' experience with the National Geographic, he was in Dubai recently to speak at a photography event. McNally had been in talks with the building’s managers for three years, before finally being granted access.

TOP OF THE WORLD

The day started at 5am in a service lift to the 160th floor, he then took a few more metal steps to reach the top. Workers helped McNally suspend himself out onto the side of the Burj Khalifa's tower. There he took several shots of the building and the breathtaking views.

The photographer went on to post some of these on Instagram with a note that read: "My old battered shoes climbed the world's tallest building today."
