An Abu Dhabi court has ordered a AED 200,000 payout to a British woman, who was injured by a falling hotel room panel at the Emirates Palace, The National reported on Wednesday
Dubai-resident Natalie Creane, who was a guest at the hotel, was left with a severe brain injury causing multiple epileptic seizures, following the accident in July 2008.
The Abu Dhabi civil court ruled that the accident caused the seizures. Emirates Palace, the Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company, and Kempinsky, the hotel company that runs Emirates Palace, were ordered to pay AED100,000 for the physical injury AED100,000 for emotional damages.
The court did not order any payment for her medical costs as Creane had not provided receipts , the report said.
Creane, who was staying at the hotel to celebrate her engagement, was injured when a 2.2kg closet rack fell on her as she was unpacking. According to medical reports, since the accident, she has been admitted to intensive care at least ten times to treat her condition.
