Officials at the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) have announced that Dubai will receive two more Salik toll gates from April 15th, daily newspaper Gulf News reported.
The first gate will be installed on the Al Ittihad Road, near the Al Mamzar Bridge, the busiest highway connecting Dubai and Sharjah.
The second gate will be installed in the Airport Tunnel on the Beirut Road on the Twar side of Deira, the report said.
The new toll gates will continue following the current charge of AED 4 each time a vehicle passes underneath the gate, with a maximum charge of AED24 per day.
Currently there at four gates in Dubai located at Al Garhoud Bridge, Al Maktoum Bridge, Safa Park gate and the Al Barsha gate, both on Sheikh Zayed Road.
Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Director of the RTA , Mattar Al Tayer was quoted as saying: “The launch of Phase III of the Toll Gates System was made after conducting exhaustive traffic and field studies of the first and second phases of the Salik gates which were launched in 2007 and 2008 respectively.”
It was also reported that the Salik tolls have successfully cut trip times down by as much as 44%, adding that the Salik tolls have managed to ease bottlenecks on both the Al Garhoud and Al Maktoum Bridges by reducing travel time from 20 minutes to one minute across each bridge.
