Dubai fashion extravaganza in collaboration with Vogue

Dubai will play host to a glitzy, A-list fashion extravaganza in collaboration with Vogue magazine later this year, local daily 7Days reported.

Franca Sozzani, editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia and one of the world’s top influential fashionistas, made the announcement at Dubai Mall on Sunday. The one-day ‘Vogue Fashion Experience’ will take place at Dubai Mall in October this year, but the exact date is yet to be finalised. The event will showcase the hottest trends in fashion along with the 180 chic fashion brands based at Dubai Mall.

Dubai is the only destination apart from Italy to host the glamorous event.

“I’m a fashion person and Dubai Mall is very strong in fashion,” the ace fashion diva said, adding that she now thinks Dubai ranks alongside the likes of Milan, Paris, London and New York as a fashion centre. The fact that all the fashion houses are under one roof adds to Dubai Mall’s appeal, whereas in Milan “you have to walk for kilometres before you can get there,” she said.

Sozzani will bring an A-list crew of the world’s hottest models and trendiest celebs to the bash, but she stayed mum on the guest list. She added that the planned Vogue café and restaurant will also open this May.

Mohammed Alabbar, chairman of Emaar Properties, developers of Dubai Mall, said the event would act as “a magnet for fashion connoisseurs.” Some of the funds raised will be donated to charity Dubai Cares.
