Dress by Dubai-based Filipino designer makes a splash at Golden Globes

Dubai-based Filipino designer, Michael Cinco, got an early morning wake-up call he will never forget on Monday.

The big news? Colombian television star Sofia Vergara picked his stunning black creation to wear on the red carpet of the Golden Globes.

"I was sleeping when my stylist friend called me at 5:30am to tell me Sofia wore my dress," the excited designer said.

"I feel so happy" he gushed.

Cinco's friend, who owns a boutique in Los Angeles, suggested he send in a design, one of many that Vergara could choose from.

The strapless, form-fitting gown is entirely handmade.

"I made it specially for her. It involved 200 hours of embroidery and beadwork with tailoring and finishing," Cinco said.

And looks like all that hard work paid off as Vergara gave the designer her seal of approval.

"I usually try to stay away from black, but I love the dress," she said.

Cinco, who has served as a guest designer on America's Next Top Model, has also dressed up stars such as Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Chris Brown.

He will next be seen as a guest judge on the first ever cycle of Asia's Next Top Model, a version of its US counterpart led by Tyra Banks.
