Bollywood film Grand Masti won’t release in the UAE

Bollywood movie Grand Masti will not release in the UAE due to its explicit content, a top official at the National Media Council (NMC) has confirmed to Gulf News.

The movie releases in India on Friday and is a sequel to the 2004 raunchy comedy Masti , starring Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani.

“There were some sexually explicit scenes in this film. Normally, we hold such films back,” said Juma Obaid Al Leem, director of the Media Content Tracking Department at the Council.

Grand Masti focuses on unhappy married men craving for adventure and spice in their life, and is modeled on the US American Pie series.

This is not the first Bollywood film that has been subject to NMC scrutiny. Bipasha Basu starrer Raaz 3 and Akshay Kumar’s OMG! Oh My God were also not released.

The film has also caused quite a ruckus in India. A Lawyer in Punjab has alleged the movie is demeaning to women and has filed a petition to stay its release. Additionally, the Punjab and Haryana High Court have blocked the release in their respective states.
