A UAE-wide survey conducted in the beginning of the year reveals that 99 per cent of residents feel safe in the Emirates, local daily Gulf News reported citing Lt General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Chief of Dubai Police.
“The crimes carried out by the youth, such as teenagers using knives, are isolated incidents and do not happen often. To completely stop these types of crimes, we are increasing our interaction with Dubai Municipality so that more facilities will be available in residential neighbourhoods,” the paper quoted Khalfan Tamim as saying.
According to Khalfan Tamim, the police have geared up their interaction with Dubai Municipality as part of its efforts to reduce the isolated crimes that occur among the youth.
“To stop fights from breaking out, we have proposed more football pitches and parks to be built so that teenagers can keep themselves busy playing sports,” he said. The results of the survey revealed details of what residents think about the efficiency of the UAE police force. Four fifths of the 2,050 respondents said police patrols arrived on time or sooner than expected, the Gulf News report said.
With regard to the quality of police services, 98.6% of the respondents believe that the number of police patrols in the community is sufficient enough and that 90% of males are not afraid to walk alone at night, the report said.
As many as 96% of respondents said they felt safe when riding a taxi at night, 98.6% felt safe and secure in Dubai and 96.4% said they believed that the efforts of police to prevent crime was sufficient.
The survey did not reveal the findings from residents in other emirates.
